The German economy is currently experiencing a significant boom. The growth rates have been extremely positive for about ten years. The boom spans almost every industry. The flow of goods is becoming more and more extensive, both in the industrial sector and in the area of private consumption. At the same time, consumers are becoming increasingly demanding and expect fast delivery from retailers. So welcome is the development for Germany as a whole, for the logistics industry, it means a huge challenge.

The new Logix study highlights the key issues. The authors of the study, Dr. Alexander Nehm and Uwe Veres-Homm present their findings. The discussion with Francisco J. Baehr from the project developer Four Parx and Rainer Koepke, Managing Director at the world's largest real estate service provider CBRE, also opens up solutions and perspectives.

Presentation: Nils Paul.

Audio podcast New ways of retailing

The retail sector is facing tremendous upheavals due to digitization. The triumph of e-commerce is bringing big changes. This is only shown by the bare figures: in the past ten years, sales in Germany-wide online business have more than tripled. For the current year, sales of just under € 54 billion are expected. This corresponds to a share of more than 10 percent of total nationwide retail sales, according to the figures of the retail consultants BBE. However, the changes in the respective sectors are very different. So far, hardly anything has changed in the field of fast moving consumer goods. So, for example, food, cosmetics or other everyday necessities, people as always buy stationary. The upheavals in the fashion industry, on the other hand, are huge. Every fourth euro is now being converted online - with an upward trend. On the other hand, growth rates in brick-and-mortar retailers have become smaller and smaller, so BBE's forecast for the coming years is even negative. How do the stationary retailers handle the findings? What does the shop of the future look like? And what strategies are the online retailers pursuing? Our discussion partners are: Martin Wild, Chief Innovation Officer of the MediaMarktSaturn Retail Group, Joachim Stumpf, Managing Director of BBE Handelsberatung München, Nikolai Gruschwitz, Managing Director of Waketo GmbH and Raimund Paetzmann, Vice President of Corporate Real Estate at Zalando.

More and more people are moving to cities around the world - including Germany. Already today, more than half of the world's population lives in a city, with an upward trend. How do cities manage to make better use of the ever-diminishing space? And how can technology help to maintain the quality of life in urban areas - maybe even improve it? In our podcast, we look at three concrete projects that give us some idea of how city life will evolve. These include the Munich factory district, a Siemens project for the prediction of air pollution in Nuremberg and the Whisper Valley in the US state of Texas.
Our discussion partners are: Prof. Dr. Elisabeth Merk, City Councilor of the City of Munich, Andreas Grömling, spokesman for the Munich plant district and account manager of heller & partner communication GmbH, and Axel Lerche, founder of EcoSmart Solution LLC.
